When it comes to essential oils, many of us have heard of the big names like lavender, tea tree oil, or lemongrass. But there's a rarely-heard-of oil that has numerous health benefits that we'd like to introduce you to today! Ajowan Essential oil comes from the Ajowan plant in India. It has a rich herbal-thyme scent that smells amazing in your home.
Health Benefits of Ajowan Essential Oil
What makes Ajowan essential oil so great?
It's antibacterial, antiviral, anti-parasitic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, reduces nausea, is a natural tonic, supports the reproductive system, and is filled with antioxidants. What does all this mean? Let's take a look
The Common Cold and Bronchitis
Ajowan essential oil is a natural bronchodilator, which means that it can relax your air passages and allow more oxygen to get into your lungs. Its effectiveness has been confirmed by a 1998 study. Because of Ajowan's ability to allow more oxygen into your lungs, and because it is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory it is a great way to treat stuffy nose, sinus congestion, colds, coughs, bronchitis, and other respiratory problems.
To experience its benefits you can apply a drop or two of Ajowan essential oil onto a handkerchief and inhale it several times a day. You can also diffuse the oil in your home or smell the oil directly from the bottle. You can also dilute 2 drops of Ajowan essential oil with 4 or 5 drops of carrier oil and massage into your chest for easier breathing.
Soothes Sore and Tight Muscles
Ajowan oil reduces inflammation, improves circulation, and creates a calming, heating sensation when massaged over areas of your body that are sore. Just be sure to dilute Ajowan essential oil or it can cause irritation. It's best to just use 2-3 drops of essential oil per teaspoon of carrier oil. Good carrier oils are sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, shea nut oil, or olive oil.
Treats Fungus and Mold Growth
If you're dealing with nail fungus, ringworm, or even mold in your house, Ajowan oil is the solution for you! Simply dilute a few drops of Ajowan oil with a carrier oil and massage it into your nails or any areas where you're dealing with fungus growth. Ajowan oil quickly destroys bacteria and fungus while naturally relieving pain and irritation.
Cures Migraine Headaches or Earaches
Because Ajowan essential oil has natural pain-relieving properties, it is a great way to reduce the pain of a headache or earache. You can simply inhale the oil, or dilute it with a carrier oil and massage it into your temples and neck.
Heal Acne and Reduce Pimples
Because Ajowan oil is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory it can clear your skin of bacteria that causes acne breakouts. It can also reduce the redness and swelling associated with pimples. Always dilute Ajowan essential oil before use with a carrier oil. For the face, the best carrier oils are jojoba oil (if you're acne-prone) or sweet almond oil (if you have normal or dry skin).
Deters Mosquitoes and Parasites
Bugs detest the smell of Ajowan oil and the oil has also been shown to kill the larvae of mosquitoes. You can dilute ajowan oil with water and spray it in areas where you want to be rid of mosquitoes, ants, roaches, or even termites!
Where Can I Find Ajowan Essential Oil?
This essential oil isn't as easy to find as many others. Some local health food stores may carry it, but you can also find it easily at the Afrikan Republic web site here.
